My Story

Hi! Thanks for dropping by. Let me introduce myself… - I’m Bob Bridges, a 29 year old Product Designer/Maker from Preston, Lancashire. In January of 2020 I decided to start my own Product Design company - the story of which, you can read below…

Ever since I was a young lad…

I’d always wanted to become an architect. After working hard throughout my school life, I went to Oxford Brookes University to study Architecture. The plan was another seven years of study to qualify as an architect, and land a job doing what I loved.

However, during my time at university, it soon became clear that architecture wasn’t where my future should be.

For me, I needed a more tactile career. One that had a greater physical and practical element to it.

Following university, I got a job working as the…

Creative Arts & Design Technician at a high school. This was a perfect role for me, as it gave me the ability to get back into a workshop, making things.

I thought I’d only be in the job a couple of years, but the challenges of working in a tough secondary school kept it exciting. I had the opportunity to work with students through all of the creative subjects, which has given me a diverse range of transferable skills.

Having the freedom to manage projects around the school, from initial concept to final production was incredibly rewarding. The first time my set was used for the school’s production of the musical ‘Hairspray’ gave me a buzz that I’d never felt before!

Although I enjoyed my job…

I knew that I was too comfortable there, and had stopped being challenged or challenging myself. So after seven years, it was time for a change and the opportunity to travel to South America with my best friend arose. How could I say no?!

I flew out to meet him in September 2019, and for the next 3½ months we explored the most beautiful and diverse continent I’ve ever been to. I won’t bore you with all my stories, but I will tell you about ticking off the number 1 box on my bucket list, Machu Picchu.”

I’ve tried to pin point when…

my fascination with Machu Picchu began, but I can’t. However, it’s safe to say it was the place I’d wanted to visit more than ever.

When we finally arrived after five days of the 45mile Salkantay Trek it was a truly memorable experience…

I stood atop of the ancient ruins, seen only before in photos.

I stood there and realised what I’d achieved.

I stood there and realised I’d made my dream come true.

I stood there and found a sense of empowerment. I knew that if I wanted to do something I could do it. I just had to focus on a goal and do everything within my power to reach it.

I returned to the UK…

with a drive and a hunger to make the most of myself - to be happy and to do the things I love, as much as possible.

I’m conscious and very grateful of how lucky I am that my circumstances have provided me with the perfect opportunity to create this.  I wasn’t going to let it slip by.

So, what will I actually be doing?

For years I’ve had several ideas and designs floating around in my head. Now is the time to transform them into reality. I want to create a range of high quality, bespoke modular furniture, primarily using the natural form of the hexagon as a basis for design.

Over the next few months…

I’d love for you to follow my journey. It’ll be hard work and will definitely be tougher than I imagine. But hopefully, with your help and support, I can make another dream of mine come true, whilst providing you with stunning and unique pieces of furniture.
